In a previous article, I promised you that the strangest tips are yet to come. Well, have you ever thought that what you eat can influence your trading decisions? It turns out they can. Now I will tell you how you should eat in order to improve your trading results.
Good Nutrition Is a Must
Food is essential for the functioning of our entire body. Each cell is saturated with the nutrients you get with food. But what matters the most is that 20% of all calories that you consume per day are spent on maintaining the work of your brain. If it lacks the energy then the quality of your decisions will be highly questionable. To improve the level of brain performance, you need to get enough calories every day.
But not only the quantity of food is important but also the quality. It has long been known that food affects your mood. Bad attitude negatively affects your results:
- The ability to think rationally decreases
- Information processing speed drops
- Motivation and self-confidence declines, etc.
So, proper nutrition has a positive effect not only on your shape but also on your thinking. Your brain needs the same as your muscles and waist:
- Fewer sugars (and this includes syrups and other sweeteners), trans fats, highly processed foods, alcohol, and more.
- More healthy fats (nuts, eggs, fish), vegetables, fruits, herbs, and green leafy vegetables.
- Don't forget about water: dehydration often provokes headaches and migraines which will clearly affect your decision-making ability.
Try Intermittent Fasting
This is a new feature that is capturing the minds of all mankind with lightning speed. Scientists have shown that if you give your body a fasting period it will lead to a number of beneficial changes.
But don't confuse intermittent fasting with diet. You don't need to cut out any foods or stop eating at all. Intermittent fasting involves eating during a specified period of time. The most common plan is 16/8 which means you only eat for 8 hours a day. The rest of the time you are fasting.
Most people choose to skip breakfast. That is, they eat from 12 pm to 8 pm yesterday. If you like breakfast, you can change the schedule. The main thing is not to go beyond the established 8-hour period. Note that women are advised to fast for no more than 14-15 hours which increases the period for eating to 9-10 hours.
What is the use of this technique for Forex traders? Intermittent fasting has a positive effect on brain function. And whatever is good for the brain is good for our financial decisions:
- Growth of new nerve cells is observed
- Protects the brain from strokes
- Reduces inflammation that affects memory and focus
- Increases brain hormone level (BDNF) which deficiency can lead to depression and other brain problems
So? What conclusions can be drawn from this article? Eat enough, eat right. In the end, it will make you happy and rich.
